Wave-soldering systems for series production

In wave soldering, the assembly passes through flux application, preheating and the solder wave in a continuous process. The SASinno iWA series offers different conveyor widths and preheating configurations.

How wave soldering works.

A spray fluxer applies flux selectively along the programmed path. Preheating prepares the assembly before the conveyor passes it over the solder wave. Layout, masking, PCB format and thermal tolerance must be compatible with the process.

Typical application

Wave soldering is a possible solution for series-produced THT assemblies. Suitability depends on component spacing, solder access, permissible heat input and the desired line integration.

What matters when choosing a system.

Conveyor width

iWA models cover maximum conveyor widths of 350, 450 and 600 mm. Include the production panel and carrier in measurements.

Preheating

The number and type of heating zones differ between models. Temperature measurements on a sample establish the actual heat demand.

Conveyor and interfaces

Conveyor direction, height and connection to the rest of the line must be established before selection.

Nitrogen and solder feed

Nitrogen protection, inline heating and automatic solder-bar feeding are options depending on the model; the exact configuration should be specified in the quotation.

Frequently asked questions about wave soldering.

What distinguishes selective from wave soldering?

Selective soldering processes defined joints locally. In wave soldering, the assembly passes over a continuous solder wave. The component layout and process objectives determine suitability.

Which width should be specified?

The total width of the PCB or carrier to be transported, not only the usable area of the populated board.
